Diabetic Footwear
Burton’s Pharmacy specializes in diabetic foot care and offers diabetic shoes by Dr. Comfort™ and Aetrex™. A complication of diabetes is peripheral neuropathy, which causes loss of sensation particularly in the feet and legs. Unidentified foot injuries due to numbness can lead to infected wounds, which if left untreated, may result in expensive, debilitating injury to toes and feet. Properly fitted diabetic shoes are very important in preventing such injuries.
We have two trained shoe fitters on staff, and Frank Burton is a Board Certified Fitter of Therapeutic Shoes.
Wider and deeper than regular shoes, diabetic shoes make room for special insoles that can be custom-made for a patient’s feet. As a result, the patient has properly fitted shoes that reduce rubbing and uneven weight distribution and increase air and blood circulation. We also have special diabetic socks for men and women in a variety of styles.
Because peripheral neuropathy can cause numbness, you may not know if your shoes are poorly fitted. Let one of our trained professionals custom fit your diabetic shoes.
If you are diabetic, Medicare and Medicaid will pay for one pair of therapeutic shoes and three pairs of custom molded inserts annually. Call us today at (336) 272-7139 to set up an appointment for your custom footwear fitting.
